After building collapse in Dongi, the adjacent building has been vacated as it started shaking. Families could be seen running out of the building with their children, in order to save their lives. As per the eye-witness three people have been successfully recused and have been rushed to the hospital.

Two teams of the National Disaster Response Force have also been deployed to help rescue those trapped.
The building was owned by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and its officials reached the site to assess the situation.
An eyewitness said the building collapse felt like a quake.
Ambulances could not reach the site and had to be parked around 50 metres away.
Television visuals showed a young child being rescued and handed over to workers.
Scores of locals joined in the effort, forming a human chain to help in removing the debris brick by brick and picking up slabs of concrete to locate those buried.
Fire brigade, Mumbai Police and civic officials rushed to the site but the constricted lanes made it difficult to access the area, reduced to a mass of rubble, twisted concrete and broken wires.
Some part of the building was left standing after the collapse.
As many as 12 family are under the debris curently, the local MLA told. He said, 'There are possibilities of many people to be under the debris. My responsibility is to protect people and save them while they are living.'
The local MLA Amin Patel said the Additional Municipal Commissioner has arrived at the spot. He said as soon as the NDRF team will reach the spot, the relief work will begin.
Narrow approach roads, huge crowds of onlookers and thickly populated areas hampered rescue operations.
The Fire Brigade, police and disaster management teams have rushed to the site and launched rescue operations, while the NDRF was expected to reach there shortly.
The building, which belongs to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, also housed a catering business on the ground floor.
A minor has been rescued after a four-storey building collapsed, officials said.

Responding to the accident, BMC Disaster Management Cell said, “Kesarbai building has collapsed at Tandel street, in Dongri, Mumbai. More than 40 people are feared trapped.”

The area where the tragic incident happened has many old buildings. The Kesarbai building which collapsed was already declared risky and unfit for use.






On July 13, a 12-year-old boy died after falling into a water-filled pit, dug for the construction of the Coastal Road, near Worli, a civic official said Saturday. Bablu Kumar Paswan drowned in the pit near Worli Sea Link at 1.20 pm Friday, said an official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The ambitious 8-lane Coastal Road will link Marine Lines in south Mumbai with suburban Kandivali in the north.
